Classroom Visits with Melissa DiVietri

Melissa DiVietri offers engaging classroom visits focused on disability awareness, creativity, inclusion, and resilience. During each visit, Melissa speaks with students about her life as a uniquely-abled artist, shares how art became a healing and expressive outlet from a young age, and reads from her published children’s books in an interactive storytelling format.

Students are encouraged to ask questions, explore new vocabulary around disability inclusion, and participate in guided discussions about kindness, accessibility, empathy, and friendship. Visits can also include optional coloring activities, creative prompts, and inspiration around using personal challenges as superpowers.

Melissa’s classroom experiences are designed to be uplifting, educational, and memorable — helping students better understand differences while building confidence in their own unique abilities.

Short Biography

Melissa DiVietri is an internationally exhibiting abstract artist, advocate, author, and technology builder from Michigan, widely known online as Blue Eye Queen. She was born with sacral agenesis — a rare congenital condition affecting the lower spine that impacts mobility.

Melissa has been painting since the age of five and transforms lived experience into expressive abstraction. Her artwork has been featured in 36 active showcases worldwide and created across 38 countries.

She is the author of disability awareness titles including
“A Tale of a Service Animal: A Heartwarming Tale of Disability Awareness, Friendship, and Kindness — Includes Coloring Activity,” available in English, Spanish, audio format, with Braille and American Sign Language editions currently in production.

Her additional titles include “The ABCs of Disability Etiquette” and an upcoming memoir sharing her journey navigating the world independently while living with a physical disability.

Melissa is a frequent speaker, storyteller, and community educator who works with schools, libraries, and organizations to promote disability representation, empathy, and inclusive learning environments.
